Medical Assistant

Program Overview

The Medical Assisting Program was established in 1962 and is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc. The medical assistant program prepares individuals to work in a physician's office or health care facility performing both medical business administration and clinical procedures. Students who successfully complete the program are awarded a certificate in medical assisting and are eligible to receive national certification by taking the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) examination, which is offered three times a year. In addition, we have an articulation agreement with Berkshire Community College, which will transfer 32 credits from McCann toward an associate degree in Health Science.

According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, medical assisting is one of the fastest growing occupations due to technological advances in medicine, and a growing, aging population. This occupational growth is expected to continue through 2010. If you are looking for a challenging and rewarding career, medical assisting may be the choice for you. I chose the Medical Assisting field for many personal reasons but also because the medical field is always growing and progressing in advanced care and there is always a shortage of qualified individuals to fill these demanding positions.
